The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Degree in journalism. First job out of college working as programmer-trainee and
chart-maker for Lockheed. Then teacher (English, journalism, US History) at a
Seattle jr. high school and then high school. Moved to Lancaster, CA and had a
baby; husband came home from work speaking this strange language so I took an
elementary data processing course to be able to understand him and halfway
through HIS boss offered me a job (which I declined - baby was too small). But
took a job as a programmer two years later. (Programmers worked night shift in
those days.) A year later husband left and I needed to be able to work days, so
company said I could write a couple of technical manuals. Voila!
