TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I file a bug against the software because that way:
* The issue gets attention and usually gets fixed.
* I can justify fixing it, if it gets assigned to me.
* By using the same bug tracking tools that the developers use, I can
add to the perception in Engineering that writers are part of the
development team.
I do participate in reviews of some very small pieces of the
corporately-defined user interface (that is, outside my own Engineering
organization), and sometimes they consider my input at that level. I'm
currently fighting a losing battle against having TWO help buttons on
the same window. Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the corporate
websites and very little to do with the design of the "User Experience"
(the new buzzword for the User Interface).
