TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I take a new screen shot in each language (we currently have five). Since I
use SGML, I place the new screen shot in a new folder (e.g.
..\screens\German) and then just change the file path in the ASCII SGML file
for each language.
After I get the translated SGML files and DTD back from the translator,
doing a Find/Replace only takes about 20 minutes (we have a LOT of nested
SGML files to go through). Fortunately, it is a highly effective method and
I never feel like those 20 minutes were wasted. I use a fantastic text
editor to edit all my SGML files (including the DTD and others) which makes
the tweaking of the translated files quick, easy, and pretty reliable.
