Steven Brown asked: "All these job hunting stories prompted me to ask a question about fee-based recruiters. Are they worth
it? Have any of you used them with success?"

Steven,
Don't just walk away -- RUN and don't look back. You might be turned into a pillar of salt :)
A few years back, when three of the major employers in my market went through massive downsizing the same week, I went through months of job searching without success. I finally decided to give one of these firms a try. It was a HUGE MISTAKE! All they did was waste hours of my time, produce a 6-page "resume" that sucked, and lightened my wallet by over $4,000.
Their approach was to teach their "clients" ("desparate suckers" in plain english -- they had a lot of us there) to cold call CEOs and "network".
I finally moved to a different part of the country where work was available.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
