TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At an interview recently, I was asked to document wrapping a Christmas
present. It was such a stupid "test" that I did it half-heartedly, and
left. I didn't even ask if there would be a second interview...especially
since the company was composed of 5 young guys in a garage. I know, Bill
Gates started that way...
An interview a few years ago gave me an IQ test. It always surprises people
when I blow these away since I don't really "look" like I can have an IQ as
high as I do (148). The interviewer was shocked that I finished the test as
quickly as I did, and ushered me out as if she was afraid I was going to ask
for HER job!
