TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I find those squiggles so distracting, I keep them turned off permanently. They don't make me look closer at anything; they just tick me off because I'm a terrible typist (I know, like that's a surprise). The Backspace key gets more work than anything else on my keyboard. I know when I've mistyped, most of the time, and the squiggles just pop on and off constantly.
The one thing I need is the one thing they can't do: find mis-typed words that are real words. I know the difference between too/to/two, their/there/they're, than/then, and it's/its, but my fingers bang out the wrong ones all the time. A machine checker can't catch those, because it can't read!
It can't read and I can't type. Nice combination. :-)
