Subject:RE: Screenshot info all in one easy-to-use PDF--and wrapped URLs From:"Sean Brierley" <sbri -at- haestad -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 24 May 2002 10:33:02 -0400
It appears that the URL I am pasting keeps breaking in the middle and
wrapping to the next line. This results in a bad URL. It was pointed out
to me that you can access the Screen Captures 102 article from the
index, at http://www.raycomm.com/techwhirl/magazine/index.html.
The URL in my original e-mail wrapped and broke after
"screencapgraphicsho." This is common in text-based e-mails. If you
paste what's on the next line, "mepage.html>" onto the end of
"http://www.raycomm.com/techwhirl/magazine/technical/screencapgraphicsho
" you will get a valid URL.
The trick is, if the URL seems broken, look to see if there is a .com,
.gov, .org, etc., .htm, or ,html extension at the end of the URL. If
there is not, then see if the URL got broken in the middle and, chances
are, the last part of the URL is on the next line of the e-mail.
That is, any 404 error you get from
<http://www.raycomm.com/techwhirl/magazine/technical/screencapgraphicsho
mepage.html> is resulting from the fact that part of the URL is wrapping
to the next line of the e-mail. Just paste it back together in your
browser and you'll be good-to-go. This technique is applicable to all
such broken URLs.
