Re: Problem with a large PDF
I have a pdf several MB in size. I want to split this up, store the parts
on floppies then rejoin the parts on another pc.
I have tried an easy approach, using notepad, but the rejoined file does
not work in Acrobat, can someone tell me why?
This is what I did: With cut & paste I split the pdf into three parts in
notepad, saving each as a separate .txt file, being careful not to lose any
characters in the process.
I then carefully rejoined the parts into a new notepad window using copy &
paste again, and then saving as a .pdf. This shows to be the same size as
the original but, when opened Acrobat is unable to display most of the
document, and error messages keep popping up if I try to scroll through the
pages.
For such a simple procedure, the pdf becomes unusable! Does anyone know
why?
I'm afraid splitting a PDF by that method is as likely to be useful as splitting a cat into three parts and expecting it to be functional when you rejoin the parts.
There are many file splitting utilities that will do what you need: cut files into disk-sized pieces, with a .bat file to put them back together.
I use File Split, which is available, along with several others, at http://www.cheta.net/shareware/apps/98/file-split.html.
