RE: question about contracting w/o agencies
>>There are several levels or types of COBRA coverage. Some don't include
an admin fee at all, but I know of one where the admin fee is an additional
$300/month--jacking up the monthly premium from about $800 to about $1100!<<
According to federal law, the COBRA admin fee cannot exceed 2% of the
premium. I suspect there is another story there... or a nice lawsuit.
yabbut, there are exceptions to everything. I
worked at a company with fewer than 20 employees,
so federal COBRA doesn't apply. Cal-COBRA to the
rescue with a hefty service charge of about 10%,
bringing health insurance for me and my spouse
to about $1200/month.
