Subject:RE: legal disclaimer on every page From:"Sean Brierley" <sbri -at- haestad -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 1 Nov 2002 09:56:13 -0500
Put a link to one topic that discusses the matter. Include it in your
bookmarks and index. Review how Adobe, Microsoft, and eHelp do this.
Then, talk to your legal dept.
I once worked on a software doc wherein the author had given numerous
warnings about the need of someone to wear eye-protection while at the
PC, lest the monitor explode and shower the person with shards of glass.
I'm sure that writer also thought they were doing what the company
wanted . . .. LOL!
How do other people out there in the tech writing world handle legal
disclaimers in online formats: specifically winhelp or htmlhelp.
Has anyone ever put a legal disclaimer on every page of their training
or documentation? I was having a disagreement with a co-worker over
this. I thought it seemed strange to put a legal disclaimer on every
page of an online training .chm. At the very least, I thought it was
unnecessary verbage that just added to the length of the training
exercise and forced more scrolling.
But she insists it's what the company wants. I figured it was
appropriate at the beginning and that was fine. I've never seen it done
this way.
