<< Justin Kelley wants to know how to "handle legal disclaimers in online formats."
It seems there is a dispute at Justin's workplace over whether or not to put legal
disclaimer text on every page of an HTMLHelp or WinHelp file. Apparently, Justin's
company wants that text on every page. >>
First, if that's what the employer wants, and the employer will not listen to any
arguments, well there's nothing worth wasting energy over. I'd do it and be done
with it.
If, however, it is possible to offer an alternative, I would suggest putting a link
(titled, say, "Legal Disclaimer") in the footer that will appear with every page
(assuming your files are configured to include footers). That would take up less
space and allow readers to view the disclaimer whenever they wanted to. Assuming
your Legal Department accepts this compromise, this approach should also satisfy
their need to cover the company's hind side.
