Bruce, I take umbrage that you pretend that you made no personal comment
("Obviously, you are determined to take my general comments as a personal
insult, even when I state that they were not meant as such"). The casual
reader may think I took your words out of context. But I didn't. When I state
my own integrity, and your response is "come one now," and when you call my
explanations "disingenuous," then you've gone into the area of personal
insult, in that you're questioning my truthfulness.
Questioning whether STC awards are handed out on the basis of the writer
rather than the merits of the work, as you have done, is a serious change
that deserves more than a hit-and-run posting. But you refuse to substantiate
your claim. I wanted to hear how the average Boston judge, with less than
five years of experience, recognizes the writing style (in a technical
manual, no less) of any one of thousands of potential applicants; I wanted to
hear how you extended that argument across the Society.
Oh, well. I can only assume you're dropping out because you don't feel like
apologizing and don't have anything to back up your assertions.
