it is very likely that this wasn't though through by the 'many technicla writers'. This is a statement along the lines of "The most important thing for a healthy life is to get enough vitamins." Nonsense - for a healthy life, it is most important to regularly breathe enough oxygen. But this is so basic that it slips below the radar.
Same with these writers: Of course providing accurate information in a timely manner is the most important thing they do. But since this is so fundamental, they don't really think about it any more. (And, to anticipate a possible comment, there are certainly some writers who actually forget what their most important function is.)
