C.O.B. - Cost of business. Or marketing. If I was starting a new company and
I needed to attract new clients, why not offer an introductory price for a
service. (Their web site even calls it introductory).
My guess is that they are not trying to make money at $30 to convert a Word
doc to Help. Instead they are trying to build a client base from which they
can sell more services and start making money.
Not a bad idea, actually. With so many people laid off and looking for work,
a new firm needs a "catch" to set themselves apart. They are probably
betting that most companies will shell out $30 once. If they like the work
then the company won't shop around.
