Re: Preparation for a phone screen interview
I did,[take a job after a phone interview] twice. Once was ok, short term (<3months), but the other one turned
out very well, short term extended to over 8 months, really fun gig.
So have I. My first big break came from a phone interview and lead to a job that last six months. And the best job I ever had came from a phone interview and lead to fourteen months' work.
But, in both cases, the interview went phenomenonally well. Most of the time, the phone interview is just a preliminary.
If I feel comfortable with a position based on phone interview, I'll go for
it. The company has more at stake than I do.
I have the same attitude, but I suspect that few people share it. I think it comes from being a long-term contractor.
Once you've contracted for a while, you have a much stronger sense that no job lasts forever. You also have much greater faith in your ability to find another job when you need one. As a contractor, one job,no matter how wonderful, just doesn't mean that much to you. You've learned to be flexible in a way that someone who has had the samejob for six years hasn't.
This attitude also gives you a much stronger psychological edge going into an interview. Feeling you have less at stake, you are likely to be more relaxed and less passive than many interviewees.
