I used to teach ESL (very amateurishly), and took a continuing ed course on
teaching a foreign language. One of my fellow students was named Bob, a
Canadian of Japanese heritage (2nd generation), who was going to teach
English in Japan. I had visions of him trying to tell Japanese citizens that
he didn't speak Japanese.
