Hi,
I think the question you're probably asking is not 'how do I use
Sharepoint" but "how do I create an effective knowledge base?" At least,
that's the question I'd be asking. The tool itself is pretty
inconsequential. A few thoughts on knowledge bases:
* It's all about quality and quantity. People want lots of good
information. There's nothing more frustrating than searching a KB with
fourteen items in it. Don't be afraid to chop up other documentation
into the KB. People may not read the manual, but they may look in the
knowledge base.
* Ensure that the KB is easily searchable and browsable.
* The more people who contribute to a KB, the better. In my experience,
developers (unless they transact with customers regularly) have little
to offer a KB. They should be given the opportunity, but so too should
the marketing, sales and (especially) the support team.
That's my two cents on knowledge bases. Thanks. DB.
