These are my rules...
Wow, those are incredibly harsh. I'd miss a lot of legitimate messages if I applied those.
They're also unnecessary if you (a) use an e-mail program that doesn't automatically execute, open, or display attachments, and (b) install (and keep up to date definitions for) antivirus software.
Both measures are really easy and inexpensive.
Netscape's or Mozilla's e-mail client is free. McAfee VirusScan Online is very reasonably priced and dead simple to use: install it once and let it update itself automatically--you'll stay safe without doing anything until next year's subscription fees are due. :)
