TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Everything that's been suggested is worthwhile. I'm in a situation
where the client expected 4 manuals, 150-200 pgs each, in a month for
a product I've never seen, and zero SME availabilty. I told them no
way, but here's what we *can* do in that time period. Negotiation
worked.
Also, I put a big yellow PRELIMINARY watermark on my master pages, so
everyone who is looking at the doc *knows* that it isn't the final
version. The client is happy with the product and my contribution.
Good luck. And remember "The Money Pit," this project could turn in
your favor.
