Gene..two parts of your statement conflict:

...anyone who uses a product is an expert on how he/she uses that
product.

...absurdly elaborate method method of doing something, then having
someone else come along and say "all you need to do is this..."

In my opinion, they conflict because even though you are using the
product (criteria 1), working out an absurdly elaborate method
(criteria 2) is not being an expert on anything.

You can be a user and be a fumbling user at the same time.
