I don't know what kind of cell phones the rest of you have, but mine
has an "off" button, and I use it. A lot. My wife in turn knows how to use voicemail, and is aware that there are times during my business day when it simply is not appropriate for me to answer my cellphone if we intend to continue receiving the income that
enables us to pay our bills. Job interviews most definitely fall
into that category.

We must have the same cell phone. My goes into off mode whenever I enter another place of business, shopping malls and grocery stores excepted. My wife does the same when she goes to work. If it is an emergency, we both know each other's work number, and neither of us use it for casual conversation. I have only been interrupted once and that was when my wife was planning on leaving me a voice mail, but I forgot to turn on the phone. She immediately hung up, I immediately turned off the phone and apologized. The cell phone does not get turned on until I leave the customers building. Its called professional courtesy, and as Gene says, it's necessary if I am to continue making the revenue we need to pay our bills and live comfortably.
