I love the "mood" switch idea. Email communication issues concerning tone (or mood) have been around almost as long as email, so I think that it's time for a switch, er, uh, an indicator of mood. So what mood I am I projecting now?

My guess is that my mood icons will get turned into little squares or spaces. I meant to convey that I am happy, that I like the idea, and I gave a thumbs up.

I personally like the article: its theme is something I've been aware of for a very long time.
To offset the risk of establishing the wrong "emotional atmosphere" when communicating via email, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to add an optional "mood" field to the headers generated by email software. It might be easier to distinguish between constructive criticism and flat-out insult that way.
Of course, with some folks, it's fairly easy to tell which of the two they're striving for. 8^)
