Questions you need to get answered by your management:

1.  Will you direct the new writer, either as a manager or
     a "lead," or will your "clone" be a peer?

2.  Will you work on your own separate projects, or as a
     team on the same projects?

Without these you don't really know what your "quasi-
enviable position" is.
