I look for someone with hands-on experience in the technical field or product type being documented who has some reasonably
successful experience documenting his or her own work. I won't say this is a universal truth, but in my experience it has been much
easier to train an experienced technical person such as a lab tech, service tech, engineer, etc., who can string words together into
a reasonably coherent sentence in the tools and techniques of documenting than the other way around.
