If you uncheck the "Use Microsoft Word to edit your email" (or whatever it says; I'm not at a machine where I can grab the exact wording), Outlook has its own built-in editor that'll handle HTML-formatted email.

The conventional wisdom is to never use Word for your Outlook email editing because it can do some wonky things to your normal.dot template that can hose your production documents if you're not careful.
