1.  Find out what criteria your manager's boss is using to judge his/her
performance and what goals he/she is required to accomplish.
2.  Sit down with your manager and set your own goals to advance your
manager's goals.

If you're a smart manager, you don't require your reports to do detective
work to find out what your own boss expects of you.
