14 years as a tech writer and you still didn't learn that the answer is
always it depends? :^)
What will you be teaching?
How will you be teaching it?
Who are your students?
>Is there a defacto standard for developing training docs?
Yep. Whatever tools the trainer can use competently and get the company to
purchase. Word processor and presentationware are typically the baseline
toolset. Anything over that is just gravy.
I transitioned from tech writer to trainer about seven years ago and I am
always happy to chat.
Congrats & good luck in your new endeavours.
