I've got to admit that I've been writing for machinery or automatic software systems for more than 15 yrs.

However, I still don't think that using the word "recommend", even in your examples is a good idea.

Now, one of the reasons I got into technical writing in the first place was that I had the opportunity to make sense of the abortion of the operation manual that he had written.

Speaking as a techwriter... NEVER use the word "recommend" or the phrase
"we recommend".

Seriously...:)

Instead, use "Do not remove," and then explain what dire consequences
will occur if they do that...
