I've gotten some interesting feedback on this issue -- some of it addressing
the concepts I thought I was expressing (and bringing up valid examples of
sloppy writing on my part -- thanks Karen! :)), and some of it addressing
other things entirely. I was trying to turn the focus to understanding what
needs to be unlearned before new attitudes or concepts can be learned or
relearned, using Norm's example as a **case in point** not a be-all-end-all,
main issue. I guess I didn't make that clear. It's interesting that even
among professional communicators there can be miscommunication. It's a good
thing we have this forum to practice among ourselves! <sheepish grin>
