Subject:Indices in FrameMaker From:Robert Crews <robertc -at- AMCC -dot- COM> Date:Wed, 21 Dec 1994 09:59:21 PST
To set the record straight regarding FrameMaker and indices for
those of you who are not using FrameMaker, FrameMaker does not
have a built-in index generator. It does, however, have an
ability to automatically create hypertext links from all index
entries to the referenced areas in the text. (This is a wonderful
feature that helps immensely in the creation and editing of indices,
regardless of whether or not the document will be an "online"
document when it is completed.)
With FrameMaker's programmer's interface, some software
engineers have created automatic index generators for
FrameMaker, but those are third-party programs not affiliated
with Frame Technology.
I've seen a couple different index programs for FrameMaker, and
I'm not impressed. I have not found a program that will do
what a talented, human indexer can do.
