Myke asked about 'raising water from a lake'.
Is the water being pumped out of the lake and into the canal? If not,
perhaps it flows from the lake into the canal (or whatever). Then again, maybe
the water is being 'channeled' from the lake into wherever it's going. In
any case, you still have a few options left other than 'raised' or 'taken
from'.
