Subject:Proliferation of Awful Web Pages From:Randy Grandle <Randy -dot- Grandle -at- CORP -dot- SUN -dot- COM> Date:Fri, 7 Jun 1996 09:14:26 -0700
Some reasons why awful web pages are proliferating:
o The average web author thinks up-front planning is a waste of time
and designs web pages using an ad hoc, stream of consciousness
approach.
o The average web author lacks a sense of design and is color blind
(a substantial minority are technically legally blind as well).
o The average web author is either a rank novice or else a clueless
HTML programming hack.
o The average web author thinks that bolding all text and using heading
tags instead of paragraph tags enhances readability.
o The average web author loves the Mozilla extensions and just
can't wait to use that dark orange wallpaper in the background with
blinking lime green text and every other word in red in the
foreground.
o The average web author just has to do something with those 30,000+
pieces of clip art on the CD ROM, so why not use them all in one web
presentation.
o The average web author surfs everyone else's awful
web pages and thinks the awful features are really cool.
On the average, the average web author is at fault. :-)
