Subject:Short names and labels From:"Geoff Hart (by way of \"Eric J. Ray\" <ejray -at- raycomm -dot- com>)" <ght -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> Date:Tue, 14 Jul 1998 05:43:13 -0600
Linda Castellani wondered how to label two fields on an online form,
one that contains a large text description (and that is appropriately
entitled "Description") and a smaller, shorter version of the same
information, currently labeled "label". The word that seems most
obvious to me is "Summary"; you could go with other words such as
"abstract", "precis", and so on, but "Summary" says it just as well
and will be more familiar to just about any English-reading audience.
If you wanted to make the distinction between the two fields even
clearer, which wouldn't hurt, change "Description" to read "Detailed
description".
